Gerald Jensen, 83, of North Loup, NE, died Mon., Sept. 10, 2013, at the Veterans Medical Center in Omaha.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 14 at the United Methodist Church in North Loup with Pastor Steve Marsh officiating. Karen Wieskamp was the organist and the congregation sang. Presentation of the flag was by Ralph R. Rich American Legion Post #285 of North Loup. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
Gerald was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Valley County near Arcadia, NE, the son of George and Mary Charlotte (Holmes) Jensen. In his early years he grew up in Arcadia and then moved to Oleans. He worked for his family and other people on the farm in Valley County.
Gerald entered the United States Army on Aug. 28, 1952, at Omaha and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 12, 1954, at Camp Carson, CO, and continued his service in the Army Reserves.
After serving active duty in the military, he returned home near Arcadia. He was united in marriage to Darlene Johnson on April 12, 1953. He began working at Trotters. He then worked on the farm and raised hogs. During that time he worked for a beekeeper at Arcadia from 1963-1980. He retired in the mid 1990s and continued to live on the farm.
Gerald was a member of the Ralph R. Rich American Legion Post #285 of North Loup.
Gerald enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and all the time he spent with them, going to their school activities and programs, sporting events, and driving them to their activities and taking them on trips.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene of North Loup; a son, Alvin Jensen of North Loup; a daughter, Crystal Wright of Scotia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Goldie Paider of Arcadia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alvin, Donald, Cyril and Samuel Jensen, and a son-in-law, Harry Wright.
